Adapted from the titular 1984 hit movie, Footloose follows Ren and his mother’s move from the big city to the rural farmlands of Bomont. After Ren—an avid dancer—discovers that dancing has been outlawed by Bomont’s religious leader, he embarks on a journey to mobilize the town’s youth and bring the town together. A collaboration between the Asian Student Arts Project (ASAP) and ¡TEATRO!, this production centers pan-Asian and Latine identities to uniquely investigate Ren’s diasporic journey and themes of intergenerational trauma present in Bomont’s familial community.
